GM Rewards Guide: How to earn and redeem your GM Rewards points

GM’s loyalty program, GM RewardsTM, lets you earn points1 that can be redeemed toward your GM Financial account balance2 and other benefits, like Certified Service,3 accessories4 or even new vehicles.5 The opportunity to get a new car is a milestone in one’s life, and whether you lease or buy, it’s a way to start fresh and begin a new era.

What is GM Rewards?

GM RewardsTM is a loyalty program designed to reward customers for interacting with General Motors and GM Financial services, including MyAccount, General Motors Insurance, GM-backed Protection products and through select purchases. Whether you’re financing, leasing or simply buying GM parts and accessories, you're earning points.

Here’s a brief overview of GM Rewards benefits:

  • Earn points for loyalty. From purchasing GM Genuine parts and eligible accessories to paying for GM Certified Service,6 most interactions with the brand can add to your points total.
  • Redeem for savings. Use your points to make payments toward your GM Financial account balance2 or for discounts toward eligible parts3 and services,3 subscriptions for things like eligible OnStar service plans,7 or even future eligible new GM vehicle leases or purchases.5

How to earn GM Rewards points

The GM Rewards program is focused on everyday transactions, so you can earn points easily. For example, purchasing a new GM vehicle earns one point for every $5 spent.8 After purchasing the new vehicle, you can customize it with heavy-duty floor liners from GM Accessories to protect it from messy post-dog-park paws, earning three points for every dollar spent.6

Earn points faster with the GM Rewards Mastercard®

Use a GM Rewards Mastercard from Barclays9 to earn up to 10x points on GM purchases. That’s 7x for using your card and 3x for being a GM Rewards member. Plus, you’ll earn 3x on all other purchases, such as groceries, at restaurants, etc.

Pro tip: New cardmembers can currently earn 30,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on their card in the first 90 days of account opening.10 Prequalify now with Barclays.

Also, GM Financial customers can earn 1,000 GM Rewards bonus points by setting up their MyAccount in five quick steps11:

  1. Downloading the GM Financial Mobile app for simple account management on the go.
  2. Going paperless. I opted to get email notifications when digital statements are ready in MyAccount online or in the app.
  3. Setting up Auto Pay. Automated recurring monthly payments deducted from my bank account ensures my payments will be on time every time.
  4. Getting text alerts. I also chose to receive important account notifications through text.10

And because I’m a member, the points appeared in my GM Rewards member account once those easy tasks were checked off my to-do list.

Soon, I was eager to see where and how I could redeem my points.

How to redeem GM Rewards Points

It’s simple to redeem points with GM Rewards, and there are many ways to do so, including:

Pay down your GM Financial balance with points

When your new car is due for an oil change, you can take it back to the GM dealership and use points toward service from the Certified Service experts.3

If you’re wondering how to redeem points, whether they can help with your GM Financial balance or how long they last, these answers can help you feel more confident before your next redemption.
